My big blue boat

A wonderful example of Jean’ soulful creating… this rhyme asks children to sit opposite eachother in two's and create ‘boat over the waves movements’!

Surely this must have been a “hit” with the young people at St Thomas Hospital London? It definitely scored high with the children at Peregrini Steiner school at Camphill Coleg Elidyr, Wales.

After Jean taught it to me over 40 years ago, I have still used it this Autumn in my last job, working with a baby with an tracheostomy. Of course my own children and my grandchild have enjoyed this big blue boat many a time!

We made the ssssails, we got the fffish ffflushhh by, we struckkkk a rockkkkk…. The vowels and consonants all came to live in movement, sound and imaginary colour in our big blue boat.
